Paya Lebar Airport, opened on 20 August 1955, was Singapore’s commercial international airport for 26 years. It was converted into a military airbase after its commercial function was replaced by the new Changi Airport on 1 July 1981 Before Paya Lebar Airport began operations, Singapore’s commercial air services were handled by Kallang Airport, which opened on 12 June 1937
