Paya Lebar Airport, opened on 20 August 1955, was Singapore’s commercial international airport for 26 years. It was converted into a military airbase after its commercial function was replaced by the new Changi Airport on 1 July 1981 Before Paya Lebar Airport began operations, Singapore’s commercial air services were handled by Kallang Airport, which opened on 12 June 1937
it was marked by an elaborate pageantry that included a ceremonial fly-past featuring 24 planes from the Royal Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force, Royal New Zealand Air Force and Malayan Auxiliary Air Force.By noon the next day, 21 August 1955, all commercial flights had been transferred from Kallang Airport to Paya Lebar airport
